หากพูดถึงประเทศออสเตรเลียแล้ว หลายคนอาจจะคิดถึงโอเปร่าเฮ้าส์บ้าง จิงโจ้บ้าง หมีโคล่าบ้าง สินค้ายี่ห้อ Roxy บ้าง ชนเผ่าอบอริจิ้นบ้าง แนวปะการังที่ยามที่สุดในโลกอย่าง Great Barrier Reef บ้าง วันนี้จะพาเพื่อนๆไปทำความรู้จักประเทศออสเตรเลียผ่านมุมมองของน้องกวางกันครับ
What are you currently doing in Australia? I have just finished my Master Degree, majoring in Business and Economics Marketing at the University of Sydney taking me about one and a half years to finish. But actually I have been here for 2 years because I came here just before my course started. Now I’m waiting of the graduation ceremony in October, so I’m looking for work (so I can practice my English) and to travel too.
ตอนนี้ทำอะไรอยู่ที่ประเทศออสเตรเลีย? เพิ่งเรียนจบปริญญาโท คณะ Business and Economics Marketing ที่ University of Sydney กวางใช้เวลาเรียนประมาณ 1 ปีครึ่ง ตรงตามหลักสูตรที่มหาวิทยาลัยกำหนด แต่มาอยู่ที่นี่จริงๆประมาณเกือบ 2 ปี เพราะมาก่อนมหาวิทยาลัยจะเปิด ตอนนี้ก็รอเข้าพิธีรับปริญญาในเดือนตุลาคมนี้ ซึ่งระหว่างที่รอ กวางก็คงหางานทำเพื่อฝึกภาษาจากที่ได้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษมาและท่องเที่ยวไปด้วย
Why Australia? There are many reasons. Firstly it is not too far from Thailand (Compare to England or US). The time difference is only about 3-4 hours so it is really easy to stay in touch with my family in Thailand. Last but not least Australia is very famous for education, the university that I studied in is part of Group of Eight top institutions. Sydney is a famous, energetic coastal city a notable business city where competition is really high, very good for me because I gain experience from it to help my studies. Another reason why I chose this country is because it is almost the same as Bangkok to make sure that I won’t be lonely.
ทำไมถึงเลือกมาเรียนภาษาอังกฤษที่ประเทศออสเตรเลีย? มีเหตุผลหลายข้อเลยค่ะ ข้อแรกที่นี่ไม่ไกลจากประเทศไทยมากนัก ถ้าเทียบกับอังกฤษหรืออเมริกา ข้อสอง เรื่องของเวลาที่ต่างกันไม่มากประมาณ 3-4 ชั่วโมงเท่านั้น ดังนั้นถ้าเราต้องการติดต่อกับคนที่อยู่เมืองไทยก็ไม่ยุ่งยากเรื่องเวลาเลย ข้อที่สาม ที่นี่มีชื่อเสียงทางด้านการศึกษาเป็นอย่างมาก มหาวิทยาลัยที่กวางเรียนอยู่ก็ติดอยู่ใน Group of Eight ของประเทศนี้ด้วย ซึ่งจัดว่ามีชื่อเสียงมาก และเป็นที่ยอมรับกันโดยทั่วไป เราได้เห็นถึงรูปแบบการแข่งขันแล้วนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ในวิชาที่เรียนได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด อีกเหตุผลหนึ่งที่เลือกมาเรียนภาษาอังกฤษที่นี่ก็เพราะดูคล้ายกรุงเทพฯมากๆ เลยไม่ค่อยเหงาเท่าไหร่
From what I gather, there are many Thai people out here to so does the Thai community often organize activities together? Very much so. Thais often attend events together in Sydney. National Thai Holiday Festivities like Songran are held each year supported by the Thai Embassy and Thai business owners. Previously they have also supported the elections, Buddhist Lent and the closing of Buddhist Lent.
ได้ข่าวว่าที่นั่นมีคนไทยเยอะ ถ้าอย่างนั้นเทศกาลแบบไทยก็มีให้เห็นน่ะสิ? ชาวไทยในซิดนี่ย์จะมีกิจกรรมร่วมกันอยู่เรื่อยๆ อย่างเช่น เทศกาลสงกรานต์ จะจัดขึ้นในช่วงเดือนมีนาคมของทุกปี โดยได้รับการสนับสนุนจากหลายหน่วยงาน ไม่ว่าประเป็นสถานทูตไทยประจำนครซิดนีย์หรือร้านค้าต่างๆที่มีคนไทยเป็นเจ้าของ หรืออีกกิจกรรมอื่นๆเช่น การลงคะแนนเลือกตั้งครั้งที่ผ่านมา การทำบุญเข้าพรรษาและออกพรรษา เป็นต้น
How about the language? Is Australian English difficult? The Australian accent is very difficult to understand (compared with British and American accents). This is because I am not familiar with the accent. It is fast and short. If you listen to Australians while they talk, you might get confused.
มาคุยเรื่องการสื่อสารกันบ้างดีกว่า สำเนียงภาษาอังกฤษของคนออซซี่ฟังยากไหมคะ? สำเนียงออสซี่ฟังยากมาก เมื่อเทียบกับสำเนียงทางอังกฤษและอเมริกา อาจเพราะเราไม่คุ้นเคยกับสำเนียงนี้มาก่อนหล่ะมั๊ง และสำเนียงออสซี่เป็นอะไรที่พูดเร็วมาก พูดย่อก็เยอะ ถ้าฟังคนออสซี่พูดกันก็อาจจะเกิดอาการงงเป็นไก่ตาแตกกันง่ายๆเลยค่ะ
What do you like about Australia? I like the cool climate here which goes on all years round and also their way of living. Furthermore, there are a lot of different landscapes sea, snow waterfalls, desserts; it is like when you come to Australia,you can experience many countries all at once.
ชอบอะไรที่สุดที่ออสเตรเลีย? ชอบอากาศที่ค่อนข้างสบายตลอดปี ชอบลักษณะความเป็นอยู่อย่างเป็นระเบียบ นอกจากนี้ก็มีลักษณะภูมิประเทศที่หลากหลาย มีทั้งทะเล หิมะ น้ำตก ทะเลทราย ซึ่งให้ความรู้สึกเหมือนกับว่ามาออสเตรเลียที่นี่ที่เดียวเหมือนได้มาเที่ยวหลายประเทศเลยก็ว่าได้
Please share with us some advice to our readers for anyone interested in going to study in Australia Before you make a decision to study abroad, you should decide which country you want to go to and why it should be that country. Then, choose the university and the subjects you are interested in studying. You may have to obtain the information about university and city you are interested in from educational agencies abroad, nowadays a lot of them are doing this for free.
อยากให้แนะนำคนที่จะเรียนภาษาอังกฤษที่ต่างประเทศ ก่อนที่จะตัดสินใจศึกษาต่อต่างประเทศ ควรคิดให้ดีก่อนว่าอยากไปอยู่ประเทศไหน แล้วเพราะอะไร จากนั้นก็ดูว่ามหาวิทยาลัยในประเทศนั้นๆมีอะไรบ้างที่น่าสนใจ อาจจะต้องศึกษาหาข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมในเรื่องเกี่ยวกับมหาวิทยาลัยและเมืองที่เราสนใจจากบรรดาเอเจนซี่ที่แนะแนวทางการศึกษาต่อต่างประเทศ ซึ่งมีหลายสถาบันที่ให้บริการรับปรึกษา โดยไม่คิดค่าใช้จ่าย
So how about you? Do you have country in your mind? No matter how near or far, you must practice the local language. Practice makes perfect!!!
แล้วเพื่อนๆหล่ะคะมีประเทศไหนอยู่ในใจแล้วหรือยัง จะใกล้หรือไกล ก็ต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษด้วยกันทั้งนั้นค่ะ ฝึกฝนบ่อยๆนะคะ
จะเห็นว่าการใช้ชีวิตที่ต่างประเทศกับการ เรียนภาษาอังกฤษ บางคนอาจคิดว่าไม่ต่างกันกับที่เมืองไทย แต่ผมคิดว่า ด้วยความเป็นต่างประเทศ มันสามารถทำให้เราซึมซับเรื่องของภาษาได้เร็วนะครับ ซึ่งเป็นการบังคับให้เราต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการสื่อสารอย่างเดียว คิดว่าเป็นสิ่งที่แตกต่างจากประเทศของเรามากทีเดียว
